From Waste to Brick: Dato’ Seri Ir Jaseni Maidinsa on Putting the Circular Economy into Practice

Dato’ Seri Ir. Jaseni Maidinsa, Chairman of Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad, will be among the featured speakers at the Zero Waste Management Conference 2.0, taking place on 5 and 6 October 2026.

His keynote speech on 5 October, “The Importance of Circular Economy: A Success Story – Waste to Brick”, will explore how circular economy principles can be translated into practical solutions within Malaysia’s water services sector.

Drawing on 37 years of experience in the industry, Dato’ Seri Ir. Jaseni will share the story behind a project that converts treatment residue into construction bricks. Rather than allowing residual material from the treatment process to remain as waste, the initiative demonstrates how it can be given a new purpose and returned to productive use.

The session will look beyond the technical outcome to the thinking and leadership required to move such a project forward. Dato’ Seri Ir. Jaseni will discuss his vision for the initiative, the challenges encountered during its development and the lessons gained from bringing the concept into practice.

His presentation will also highlight a key principle of the circular economy: materials traditionally regarded as waste can become resources when organisations rethink how they manage by-products and residual materials.

For participants involved in waste management, water services, sustainability, engineering or environmental planning, the session offers an opportunity to hear directly from an industry leader who has helped turn a circular economy concept into a working solution.

The presentation forms part of the Zero Waste Management Conference 2.0, which brings together speakers and stakeholders to exchange ideas, experiences and practical approaches to reducing waste and advancing more sustainable resource management.
